Fluffy Icing Love Affair

As far back as I can remember, I have LOVED what my mom called "fluffy icing".  I've never been a fan of traditional cake icing and always scrape it off and give to someone else.  But for the last 44 years, EVERY year my dear mother makes my "special" cake - Homemade Angel Food cake with Fluffy Icing.  Usually pink or purple, although I've requested green, blue, red.......

Lucky me - NO ONE in my family can stand this cake.  So more for me!!  This last June, however, my 18 yr old did try it and loved it himself.  For both of us, this icing has a marshmallowy  (is that a word?) taste and texture.

But, I cannot find it ANYWHERE near me!!  I've checked online and many people are also complaining.  But guess what??!!! sells it!!  I was able to buy 12 boxes and got them in 2 days.  SO EXCITED.  They don't expire until May of 2012, so no worry there.

Instructions are simple- add 1/2 cup boiling water to the contents of pouch.

Then, use your mixer  - 30 seconds on low to mix thoroughly.  Then 5-7 minutes on high until stiff peaks.

I then went to find food dye and we didn't have any!!!!!!!  ACK!!!!!!! lol  I've never kept it white (or I should say, my mom never kept it white.  lol)

If you have not tried this, you must check your local grocery stores.  If not, order it online.  You won't be sorry!

My cake from this year!!!  Thanks MOM!!!

  1. Cheri, that icing looks amazing. I bet I would love it, but honestly, I'm afraid to try it. I can easily become obsessed with certain sweet treats, and I'm afraid that icing might just be one of them. My mouth is already watering!

  2. I wonder if it's the same as 7 minute icing? That stuff is good too!

  3. Hey Girlfriend...

Been MIA for some time now due to a computer crash, extended travel and then an accident while I was away that has my pain right off the charts. (what's that about bad things coming in 3's?) I've missed you and sure have a lot of catching up to do!

I wish I could say that I liked the fluffy icing, but I'm a straight up, sugar shocking butter cream frosting gal. Love the "bakery" style and usually ask for the corner piece on any cake that's been frosted with it! The fluffy stuff is quite pretty though.

Guess I missed your birthday so, Many Happy Returns of the Day, my friend! Hope you are feeling a little better. I read back a couple of posts and see that the CRP is back. So, so sorry.

Drop by the blog or shoot me off an email if you're feeling up to it, OK? Sending my love and lots of healing thoughts and prayers.

  4. Oh man, i have got to find that and try it too:) It looks sooo yummy! Thanks for stopping by my blog, hope to get to know you better:)
