Weekend Randoms

I had a rare Saturday off and we ended up at a lovely park in a nearby town.  It was one of those quaint locations where every photographer in town was there with their clients.   After touring all the little shops (and didn't buy a single thing!),  we thought we'd do the cheap method and take an iPhone photo.  Turned about pretty good, we thought!

And a SUPER rare photograph of the boys these days.  Sorry for the pitiful quality...I was just happy I got anything at all!  I'm sure our oldest would be cooperative...have to catch him on a golf day!

Can't forget Sage and Sweety!

Tomorrow, EngineerHubby has surgery on his other foot....did the first one 1.5 months ago.  Plantar Fasciitis surgery.  Hopefully soon he will be able to exercise and not have tons of pain.

Going to the Vet

Thought I'd share something I had never heard.....we have 2 doggies and when one gets a bladder infection/UTI...the other one soon does too....Turns out...by sharing a water bowl, they share bacteria.

Good to know!

Sage Photo

Took this funny photo of Sage tonight:

Is your dog scared of noises or neighbors?  Jumpy?  High-strung?  I really recommend Thundershirts.....our dogs love them.   Much calmer...  (This is what Sage is wearing in the photo....it pulls tightly around the body and calms them down.)

Remembering Sammy

My best friend had to put her sweet Sammy down yesterday after a long struggle with diabetes and other health issues.  She welcomed Sammy in to her home a few months prior to our Sweety coming in to ours.  In fact, Amy and Sammy are exactly WHY we got Sweety......

Here are some photos from back in the day (2002 or 2003) when we lived in Iowa and they were newer pups:

Sammy is on the left - the cute white Bichon.  Sweety is the black Pekingese.

Sammy was a great dog.....loved Amy to pieces.  He will be deeply missed.

Love you, Amy.   ( ( HUGS ) )

Weekend Randoms

We had a busy weekend.. if I had worn a pedometer, I'd have a lot more to add to my exercise log...

Week before last, we walked 12 miles over 7 days at the park.....and that doesn't include the nightly walking the dogs around the neighborhood.  So fun!

This week, we walked 11 miles....Andy has an iPhone app that has GPS and tracks our exact path plus tells us how long we walked and the distance.  Love that.

Here is a photo of Sage last night - her favorite part of going walking - the car ride.  lol

She sits up in the chair like a big girl....then we get to the park and have to coax her out.  Once we get going, she loves it.. the geese at the park...don't love her.  lol If they only knew what a scaredy cat she is....

We've gone to several movies and I have been surprised at how strong my legs are.  I used to walk up the movie auditorium steps one at a step...now I just walk up them strongly and quickly.   Walking DOWN the steps, I used to stand behind Andy, holding his shoulders for support, one step at a time.  Now he prefers to stand beside me holding my hand, but my balance and strength are night and day improved.  Yay!

We've also been trying to find a new dog food that helps Sweety's allergies without having to spend hundreds of dollars on allergy testing and meds....final result - Blue Buffalo chicken adult food with a small spoonful of Blue Buffalo wet food mixed in for Sage.  We learned that German Shepherds (she is half German Shepherd and Golden Retriever)...can be really picky eaters.   We had them on Bil Jac for years...with it being the first and only food they both loved.  But now with Sweety's allergies and Sage's new fatty lipoma on her shoulder, I researched dog foods.  Bil Jac is a 1 star food.....high priced Purina, I guess.  Darn!

We decided to get a 4 star dog food or higher....tried Avoderm, the Blue Buffalo Wilderness (both grain-free)...then the Blue Buffalo chicken....after chatting with an expert.  Sweety will eat anything...Sage.....food strikes regularly.  lol  Blue Buffalo is actually a 5 Star food.

And the best part?  Petco took back the opened 2 dog foods that didn't work out...Yay!!

And finally, we're planning a trip to our hometown..to visit family .....

AND

We aren't taking the recliner!!  We aren't going to travel like the Clampitt's!!  I'm gonna sit in the front seat like I used to......

Oh, speaking of that...I am now down 80% in former medication related to the nerve damage....only 20% to go.  It's been going great...just a few days where I felt a little tired...I've still only taken one dose of the medicine given to me for reactions and withdrawal...it is just amazing.

Hope you had a great weekend!!

Where Have I Been and Spa Doggie Photos?

Where have I been?  Well, we've had the blessing of getting to switch to being a Mac family, due to an unexpected  Dell system failure.  And lucky me, I DID backup mid-April...so all was not totally lost.  And the best thing about blogging your entire life online?  BACKUP!!  Almost everything not backed up is sitting here on my blog....just the last batch of photos that hadn't made it into posts yet BUT were still in my phone....can we say "Oh yeah!!!" for not deleting photos in the phone automatically??

In the meantime, I thought I'd share some Beauty Spa photos of my girlz......

Miss Sage, our Golden Retriever/German Shepherd Mix Rescue

Her new summer "do"...

Queen B...er.....I mean Sweety.... purebred Pekingese

Here new summer "do"

We thought we might take the groomer some Pekingese haircut photos...what do you think?  lol

In other news, my pain has lifted.....as in G.O.N.E.      I feel amazing!  I will have a post soon detailing exactly HOW...I can't wait to share!  I feel wonderful...have been walking a 2 mile trail with hills and valleys, working out in the condo weight room......the details give me goosebumps!

Now back to manifesting all my fave bookmarks and other items off in the land of dead computers.....in other good news....when we get this one resurrected, Andy has a new computer!    Lucky Guy!

Antique Shopping Surprise

Both our boys were out of town, so we ran off for a little getaway to Nashville....and went junking in antique shops.  I was noticing all the ceramic dogs when I noticed one was MOVING.  Ha!

THIS is the dog I meant to get before I ended up with a high shedding, high yapping, high opinion of herself Pekingese.  Japanese Chins are no-shed, no-yap, yumminess!

See the ceramic dog??

This little sweety is 3.2 lbs and full grown.  Ahhh..............

This "Sweety" was inappropriately named......

But she was.....er......cute?......when she was little.  Maybe a cute only a momma could love?  lol

Holt is so little!!!

Most Pekingese are not black with skunk white tails.......she's special!

NightOwlCrafting

Joining this party for the first time, here are this week's questions:

1. Do you make a budget and keep it, or just fly by the seat of your pants?

Yes, we have a very detailed budget.  We keep our money balanced to the penny.  We have the paychecks automatically deposited into one account that the general bills get paid out of (the fixed bills, mostly).  Then, a chunk of money gets then automatically transferred to another bank where hubby gets cash the Saturday after every payday.  (every 2 weeks)  THIS cash goes in our wallets and is used to pay the following:

Grocery
Walmart
Sam's
Health Food store items/supplements
Any miscellaneous spending
Eating out

If we want to go out to eat, I look in my wallet.  If there is no money, we don't go!  It is very simple. Some folks say that having cash in their wallet gets spent faster.  For me, seeing cash makes me hoard it - I don't like to spend it.

2. Do you do spring cleaning and if so which month?

No, we clean year round.  This has always been on of OUR issues....both clean freaks.  We move so often that things never get cluttered up.

3. Are you a yard sale lover and do you have them and go to them?
No!  Will rarely go to one and even more rarely will I hold one.  We hired an estate guy once to operate our garage sale and we made (after his cut) $5000.  He priced things MUCH higher than I ever would have and because he had such a following (folks knew he only took on great sales)...he pulled those prices.
However, we have purchased MUCH of our furniture and other items out of the classifieds or online sale sites.  Many amazing deals to be had - folks moving, getting a divorce, financial distress sales.....can get really great prices and not have to pay full price OR drive around to a zillion yard sales.  lol

4. What do you take when you have a headache?
I take a product called Charcoal, from the health food store.  A holistic MD we had a few years back recommended taking Charcoal for headaches and if you know you just ate something you should not have.  It absorbs whatever it is that is triggering the headache.    Works amazing on me.  Since hubby found out he is officially allergic to Tylenol and cannot have Advil, he is struggling to get on the Charcoal bandwagon.  When he takes it, his headaches go away.

5. Name 3 things that you feel lucky to have in your life!
I feel lucky to have my family - especially my husband.  We have been through SO much and it seems to never end, but he's a wonderful, faithful guy.  At the end of the day, despite other issues that might cloud things, his heart is golden.
I feel lucky to have my positive spirit/glass half full mentality.  Wouldn't make it another day with this pain if I did not believe in something greater to come.  If I had known that my future would never have another pain-free minute EVER, I would have stopped and taken in through all 5 senses the relief....the relief I never knew WAS relief.   I now try to live as if I may not have tomorrow so I don't get caught in regret later.  It's tough, but gives me purpose.  I consider this a gift because I CHOOSE it.  It helps me reach out to others who are currently struggling with their chronic pain and haven't found a place of peace yet.

And I am thankful for my dogs - they bring much joy to my mostly reclined/distract from nerve pain life I'm living.  Dogs just have a way of doing that - unconditional love.

Hop on over to Night Owl Crafting and meet other women!

Freaky Friday

Running errands tonight, these dogs were in the car next to us.  Tried hard to fix their glow-in-the-dark eyes, but was unsuccessful.

So funny!  Or creepy.  Can't decide!

Santa Visited!

It's so nice when you have older children.....no early mornings!  Around noon, we WOKE the boys up and got to opening presents.  lol  Here are some photos:

That is not a skunk in the photo - just our skunk-colored Pekingese.  lol

Andy ordered Black shoes with purple swirl and we got the right box, but these pink shoes were in the box instead.  Love them, but not practical.   I have a slight affinity for all things purple.  lol   Will return and exchange for these:

This banner can be sent back when the Sooners win more National Championships and the dates will be embroidered on.  When the banner is full (from all the National Championship wins in the future (LOL), the company will redo the banner entirely!)

Moved all the dog beds into the dining room and stacked them.  Sweety thought - COOL!  I'll be the princess and the pea!

Sage had to interrupt the show to see just what was going on - give her approval!

We tried to get more photos of Holt but he wasn't cooperative.  Imagine that.  lol

Merry Christmas everyone!  We sure missed being with family this year.
