Update on My Word Verification Post

Since I posted the very popular "Do You Still Require Word Verification" post a few weeks ago, I have gotten much feedback.

The biggest surprise was that most bloggers who HAVE word verification or Captcha?  Didn't know it!  So, this tells me that any blogger reading this right now should take a moment and GO CHECK....just to be sure......since we don't get this if we look at our own comments, how would we know unless someone tells us?

That said, of all the bloggers who gave it a try - turning OFF Word Verification, only ONE has written back saying that spam got through. ONLY ONE!

I also wanted to show you a photo of the proof that the new Blogger software catches the spam....I have received 39 SPAM comments since May 3, 2011 and NONE made it through to my blog.

Once I click on that Spam tab, the number (39) will go away so THIS time, I remembered to capture the photo first!

Wouldn't you love to have a spam free blog AND make it easier for your buddies online to leave comments?  Surely that answer is YES.......????????

Give it a try - check out my tutorial and give it one month.  You (and your online friends) will be SO glad you did!!

I have put this post as a permanent button on my upper right sidebar....traffic has been incredible.....it' time - turn Word Verification and Captcha  off!!

I may be joining THESE parties!

  1. I have that disabled on my blog for two reasons. I hate it when I go to comment on a blog and that is there, since I often read/comment from my phone and it is difficult to add the snarly letters that way. Secondly, I figure if it bugs me, it likely will bug others as well. The spam filter is amazing and it does work!

  7. Keep spreading the word!

I had a poll on my blog over a week ago abbout verification and 98% of people hated it. Some to the point that they won't leave a comment on that person's blog.

  8. I SOOOO agree about the word verification do-hickey. I can't even begin to count how many times I've nearly left the page and the darn thing pops up.... Had I not seen it my comment would have been lost. I took mine off a LONG time ago....just went to check how many were comments were in my spam box and only one was there. I do read the comments before I post them, but I've never received a spam message in my inbox either.

    Have a great week.

    Warm blessings,
    Spencer

  9. I don't hate word verification, and I get why it exists. But I did turn it off after reading your original post. I have received just one spam comment (and it was caught by Blogger). One seems sorta spammy, but whatever. I have gotten more comments, and that makes me happy. Thanks.

  13. Thanks for the tips. I disabled mine months ago because I find it so annoying when I go to leave a comment. I never heard of the other one though. I have been having trouble leaving comments of late with google/blogger, don't know why.

  14. Thanks for posting "Increase Your Comments" on Frugal Friday. From there I moved on to read this post. Very helpful and informative, and I didn't have to bug my daughter about yet another bloggy thing. :D

  15. Another way to cut down on spam is to go into your Comments tab and under "Who Can Comment" click registered users - includes OpenID. Without this change I was getting so may spam comments that it was driving me nuts, although this was before the new blogger software.

  18. Preach it! I cannot even begin to tell you how hard it is when we are visiting folks who link up to our party every week have word verification. We really want to leave comments but it takes so long and we are trying to get to as many as possible so we applaud your efforts to spread the word! :-) We have NEVER had any spam get through on our comments. Thank you so much for sharing this at Inspiration Friday!

  19. I love that you are talking about this topic...it is definitely a point of contention with me when I visit other blogs. Especially now that I am hosting a regular link party....I like to comment on as many entries as I can, and I hate to admit it, but I am much more likely to skip over ones with captcha.
